Frequently Asked Questions

General

How good is the sound insulation?

Office phone booths and meeting pods can be used to eliminate distractions and increase productivity in the workplace, but this is only achieved if they are actively used. To reach their full potential, pods must be placed close enough to their users. This creates certain requirements especially in terms of sound insulation.

The required level of sound insulation for pods, expressed in practical terms, is that they can be placed right next to workstations in an office and people working outside them will not be able to overhear discussions inside. This is especially important in the case of on-demand use of single-person pods.

ISO 23351-1 is a new standard that can be used to measure the level of pods’ sound insulation as a whole and to produce a single figure, called speech level reduction, which describes the degree of provided speech privacy. A speech level reduction of 30 dB corresponds with the practical requirement of sound insulation mentioned above. With a lower level of sound insulation, pods should be placed further away from people working outside them. You can read more about the new ISO standard here.

In addition to sound insulation, interior acoustics of pods are another factor to take into consideration. Poor interior acoustics make it difficult to hear what’s being said during phone calls and meetings. This also causes users to raise their voices, which creates another problem in terms of privacy.

Reverberation time is typically used to describe the interior acoustics of a space. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to reliably test reverberation time in pods because of their small size. However, the surface area and thickness of absorptive materials inside a pod are good indicators of its acoustics. Also, as with sound insulation, it’s important to test pods in practice and make sure that speech sounds natural inside them.

Where should I place the pod?

We recommend locating our office pods and office phone booths centrally, close to where people are working so it is easy to check whether the pod or phone booth is occupied and is easy to access. You can find more tips in our Placement guide.

How many pods do I need?

We recommend providing one Framery One, Framery One Compact and Framery O for every 10 employees, one Framery Four or Framery Q for every 20 employees and one Framery Six or Framery 2Q for every 30 employees.

As a rule of thumb, the more noise or ad hoc conversations in the work area, the more pods you need.

Which electronic components can be changed?

All the electronic components can be changed in the event of a malfunction. Our electrical safety certificate in the USA and Canada requires the electrical unit and the power outlet in our products to be tested together at our factory. This requirement dictates that if one of these components needs replacing, they must both be replaced.

This applies only to pods in the USA and Canada. Everywhere else, the electrical unit and the power outlet can be replaced separately. All other components can also be replaced separately.

Do the pods cause any interference with wireless signals (WiFi etc.)?

We have found no evidence that pods interfere with any regular wireless signals.

Framery smart pods’ radio frequency approval measurements are tested according to EU and FCC legislation. The system doesn’t disturb other electrical devices.

What are the technical specifications of the lights?

In an office where 300 to 500 lux illumination on a workstation table top is achieved, a similar 300 to 500 lux result is achieved on top of a table inside a Framery pods when the glazing in the pod is not obstructed.

All products provide natural color temperature of 4000K.

Specific lighting information can be found from product guides.

Is there a way to adjust ventilation and lighting?

The ventilation and lighting in the pods can be adjusted using analog controller in Framery O, Q & 2Q pods and digital touchscreen controller in smart pods.

Our dual phase ventilation system means that there are default settings for fan speed when the pods are in use and different setting for continuous ventilation and refreshing the pod when not in use.

Safety & warranty

What is the lifespan of Framery products and is there a warranty?

Framery smart pods set the standard in sustainability with durability that is measured in decades, light-weight product structures, use of truly recyclable materials, and modularity that allows the life cycle of the products to be extended indefinitely.

Framery wear parts (including gas lifts, leveling glides, LED lighting, electric parts, hinges and locks) are warranted. Regular maintenance will extend the lifespan of a single pod unit substantially. Maintenance includes regular service calls for the unit (tightening screws, adjusting hinges, etc.) and the replacement of wear parts.

What kind of certification do the products have?

The Framery Management System has been certified according to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.

All Framery products are CE marked.

How good is the indoor air quality?

There is great indoor air quality of all Framery pods that goes beyond standards set by regulations.

Framery smart pods come with GreenGuard Gold certification.

All Framery products are GreenGuard certified.

Are Framery products eco-efficient?

Framery smart pods line sets the standard in sustainability with durability that is measured in decades, light-weight product structures, use of truly recyclable materials, and modularity that allows the life cycle of the products to be extended indefinitely.

Framery has achieved a 23 % material reduction – which equals over one million kilograms of raw material annually – with its new line of products, while increasing their level of performance compared to previous models. This has also made it possible for Framery to reduce product prices.

The carbon footprint in the manufacturing stage of the new products is 16 % smaller on average. A change from plywood to steel as the main construction material also allows Framery to continue reducing its environmental impact and strive towards a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2028.

The most effective way for manufacturers to reduce the environmental impact of their products is to extend their life cycle. The durability of the all-steel structures of Framery’s new products is measured in decades. Modular product structures allow them to be easily serviced and refurbished and their life cycle to be extended indefinitely.

At the end of their life, the products are fully recyclable as a result of elimination of composite and other hard-to-recycle materials.

Are the pods safe in case of an earthquake?

In Framery’s case, seismic requirements are typically related to our products’ ability to stay upright in case of an earthquake.

Seismic anchoring can be done to Framery smart pods using specific seismic kit. Instructions are available upon request.

If required, Framery O and Framery Q can be fixed to the floor with anchor bolts using the leveling glide screw holes in the floor modules. Framery 2Q can be fixed to the floor with anchor bolts and seismic brackets.

What about fire safety?

No fire hazardous materials are used in Framery products.

The fire safety of all surface materials, upholstery and acoustics materials of our products are tested and classified by either national or international standards.

The sheet metal exteriors and sound-control laminated glass are of such quality that they may halt heat and fire.

Acoustic felt fibers we use meet B-s1, d0, EN 13501-1; acoustic panels B-s2, d0, EN 13501-1 and floor carpet Bfl-s1, EN 13501-1 requirements.

Interior panels in Framery products meet ASTM E84: Class A.

Seat materials used in the seating provided by Framery meet CA TB 117:2013 requirements.

Fabric used in upholstery meets the performance requirements of EN 1021-1 and 1 021-2.

Do the pods need sprinklers?

KIWA Inspecta, an EU accredited inspection body, has stated that there is no need for installing sprinklers in Framery products.

The statement is based on the following facts:
None of the products or product clusters exceed the 9 – 12 square meter area covered by a single sprinkler.

The products do not contain any easily combustible materials and therefore do not increase the fire load of the surrounding space by hindering the operation of the sprinklers in it.

The products can be considered movable furniture instead of building structures that sprinkler requirements are typically set for.

KIWA Inspecta’s statements are available upon request.

In special cases where sprinkler installation is required by local fire officials or local regulations, our products can always be fitted with sprinklers.

Framery does not provide the sprinklers, install them or take responsibility of the installation.

Sprinkler installation instructions are available from help.frameryacoustics.com.

How much air flows inside the pods?

Framery Q
Total air flow | 66 l/s (237,6 m³/h)

Framery 2Q
Total air flow | 121,1 l/s (256,5 m³/h)

How much noise do the fans make?

The fans do not significantly increase the noise level in a typical open office setting. The fans are on top of the pods, so they are as far away as possible from people working around them.

It is possible to minimize the noise the fans make by adjusting their speed, which in turn affects the air flow inside the pods. Placing the pods under a low ceiling or a ventilation pipe with a hard surface should be avoided because these structures may increase fan noise by reflecting sound.

Framery Office Sound Masking System doesn’t increase the office ambient noise.

The Framery smart pods are made of steel (vs. plywood for the previous generation of pods). Does that make them less sustainable and environment-friendly?

Not at all – Framery smart pods are more sustainable than their plywood counterparts.

They are lighter, which reduces the materials usage by 23% and results in 16% lower manufacturing emissions on average.
